I have IBM Thinkcentre desktop. Last month the original power supply got fried, the original IBM power supply was out of stock so I had to install a new unbranded power supply immediately. Till now my computer is working okay with this supply.

Do you guys think I should replace the unbranded power supply with IBM original power supply now, although this would be expensive affair. But I want to make sure that it may not harm my computer in long run. Please suggest ?

Before answering please keep in mind that the unbranded power supply installed on my pc is not that cheap in quality, its the best available supply in unbranded market & is coming with 1 year warranty !
Secondly I have been using it from last 1 month, 10 hours a day.

Thanking you all in advance.

you dont need an IBM power supply, just make sure it is at least the same wattage (or higher) as the one you pulled out.

As long as the unbranded power supply is not super cheap you should be fine. Also you want to make sure the power supply can support the same wattage as the IBM did.

I don't think this unbranded power supply will harm you computer. if you are having problems with it, you can always use your warranty to get another one. But the problem could lie deeper than the actual power supply if you are going through these like hotcakes. If I were you, I would get another power supply with your warranty. If that starts giving you problems too, call IBM and see what they suggest. Good luck!

As long as the unbranded one is the same voltage and current, then no. Why pay IBM's inflated prices!

It doesn't matter what brand it is. It provides 12 volts of DC to your computer through a 12 or 20 pin connection with a ground. There are no other requirements.

With power supplies, make sure that it is the correct voltage, and rated for the same or more amps (or watts).

If so, then keep on computin'!
