how good do you think Wade Phillips can make our defense with all the personel that we have? Also, just making a point I think our offense will be in good shape with Romo starting on a new slate and T.O. and Glenn ready to blow it up along w/Crayton, Barber, Jones and Witten.

Okay to those who are getting confused which is why i said Charger fans cause they understand the question..Wade Phillips was the Def Co for S.D chargers lastyear but I am talking about the Cowboys..and everyone is so quick to say the AFC is so far ahead..Dallas beat the Colts lastyear and the Pats are good but who is to say that they will have good team chemistry..everything goes in a circle..the NFC once dominated the league and here recently it has been the AFC but the NFC is coming back strong..Go DALLAS

For one of the posters earlier in the chain...

Wade Phillips has had success everywhere he went?
1985 Saints 5-11 (split season with his dad)
1986-88 Eagles - 0 playoff wins (0-1)
1989-1992 D-Coordinator for Broncos 3-2 in playoffs with Reeves and Elway
1993-94 Broncos HC - ZERO playoff wins (0-1)
1995-97 Bills DC - 1-2 in playoffs
1998-00 Bills HC - ZERO playoff wins (0-2)
2003- Falcons - pathetic 5-11 team
2004-06 Chargers 0-2 in playoff games

So a guy that has not been associated with a team that has won a playoff game since 1995 is a success everywhere he has been?

Teams he has been associated with are a combined 4-10 in the playoffs. The 4 wins were because he was the DC on teams that had Elway and Kelly as their QB's.

He has never won a playoff game as the HC

He is asking Charger fans because they are more familiar with what Wade can do.

This is an intriguing question: I think that Wade can easily turn the Cowboys into a top defensive force this year, possibly #1 overall. The Cowboys under Parcells played a read and react 3-4 defense, which was basically setup to 'not give up the big play,' which is exactly what the defense did... a lot...later in the season. ILB Bradie James was absolutely lost in coverage, and when OLB Ellis went down with injury, Ware become the only pass rushing attack and teams easily keyed in on him. Along the defensive front, the linemen would basically allow the offensive line to engage them while reading the play and reacting to whatever was going on, hence the term read-and-react, which virtually eliminated any chance of getting a sack. Roy Williams was often playing deep coverage and got burned by more athletic WRs and TEs. Roy Also had to compensate for the poor coverage of rookie FS Pat Watkins and veteran Keith Davis.

Under Wade, the D line will be much more aggressive, lining up to attack the backfield regardless of the offensive play call. The linebackers have all gotten smaller which should add more strength without losing strength. 1st round draft choice Anthony Spencer is reportedly the real deal and should replace rehabbing Greg Ellis as starting OLB. Bobby Carpenter is making the transition to inside LB, and will battle incumbent Bradie James for one of the starting ILB jobs. Veteran FS Ken Hamlin will replace Watkins at FS and man the center field. Roy Williams will line up closer to the line of scrimmage where he more dangerous and will also be called upon to play LB in some sets. The Dallas fans used to the slow, predictable defense of the past should be pumped for what is about to be unleashed on the rest of the NFL.

I'm a Cowboy fan and a Charger fan too. I am so excited that Wade Phillips is with us and can't wait to see what he does with the defense. I think Demarcus Ware is in for a sack-fest this season - whoo whoo.

As far as offense, Romo still has to prove that he wasn't a half-season wonder and Jones needs to show he's got the heart of a starting back otherwise I want to see more Barber. I know the rumors still linger about Larry J coming to Big D but I don't see it happening at all.

I think the Boys are set to win the division but have 3 obstacles in their way to the Super Bowl that being Chicago, Seahawks and Saints.

How many days until preseason? I'm having football withdrawal.

Wade Phillips has had success everywhere he's gone. With the talent the Cowboys have, he should be able t take them far... Pending on the fact that TO will be a team player. If not, then expect similar results as last year.

being a charger fan, phillips can solidify an already talented defense in dallas. being a doug flutie fan, phillips is an idiot for benching him in favor of rob johnson in the playoffs (back in buffalo, music city miracle). he should just stick with defense and let the OC handle the offense. and personally, i don't think romo is that good to be happy about.

I think you mean cowboys, and I think they are great! The offense should be explosive and with phillips the defense will become better also. I think they will make to the playoffs and lose to the saints at some point though.

Its gonna take Wade Phillips a few years to install what he coaches, so i think it will be a few years before Dallas is at there peak for playing potential.

Your defense will be disruptive, he likes to bring heat with multiple defenders, he makes the corners play man so he can blitz the LBs. Your gonna see the opposing QB scramble a lot. Good spacing, physical defense, guys will be in position to make plays. Roy Williams should cause trouble all over the field.

I wouldn't want him touching my offense though.

Wade is a great coach- that will help- but the Cow"boys" are not close to a title. Keep trying- but not this year.

The AFC is too strong!
