WASHINGTON - The White House on Thursday made fun of former President Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for criticizing President Bush's decision to erase the prison sentence of former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

"I don't know what Arkansan is for chutzpah, but this is a gigantic case of it," presidential spokesman Tony Snow said.

In his commutation decision, Bush left a $250,000 fine. Libby paid the fine on Thursday.

One word would be gonads but Hillary has those. Hubris comes top mind also as does balls, hypocrite, " pot calling the kettle black" " Let's see how much America has forgotten". All these things apply.

The Clinton's were not brave enough to help their buds out until days before they left office. Least Pres. Bush is up front about it and not waiting till the end.
Everything this President has done has been done by others, but it is not convenient to look for the truth when a well told lie will do.

Dammit Paul! You're NOT suppose to remember Clinton's pardons of REAL CRIMINALS! He should be hailing this decision as Clinton showed America that lying is acceptable. At least it is for the libs. And Bush did NOT pardon Libby--he only commuted his sentence. Wish they'd get that straight!

I am an Arkansan and I can honestly say that I am not sure what Tony Snow meant by his statement but I do find it funny that Bush wants to call Clinton a hypocrite. I love the way the Republicans just can't get past the fact that a poor little boy from Arkansas beat the pants off their boy back in 92. But for all of you who want to beat Clinton down for his 'pardons' in the last hours of his Presidency.....so you don't forget the history of this act...lets remember some other famous 'pardons' shall we:

CASPAR WEINBERGER, 1992
Former Defense Secretary Weinberger and six other defendants were criticized for participating in the transfer of U.S. anti-tank missiles to Iran in what became known as the Iran-Contra Affair. Weinberger was charged with lying to the independent counsel after he resigned in 1987. But the pardon by President George H.W. Bush essentially halted the legal proceedings against Weinberger and his fellow defendants, as well as against Bush himself, who could have been called to testify as a former member of the Reagan administration. Independent council Lawrence Walsh, who had been investigating the affair, disapproved of the pardon, saying: "The Iran-Contra coverup... has now been completed."

GEORGE STEINBRENNER, 1989
Indicted on 14 criminal counts on April 5, 1974, the owner of the New York Yankees plead guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiring to make illegal contributions to President Richard Nixon's re-election campaign. Steinbrenner, a major Republican donor, allegedly knew the money he was donating was not going through regular election procedures. Not wanting to appear soft on crime, President Ronald Reagan would only pardon Steinbrenner if the Yankees' owner admitted to the crime.

RICHARD NIXON, 1974
A little over a year after he resigned in the wake of Watergate, Richard Nixon received a highly controversial pardon from President Gerald Ford. Some charged that the pardon was part of an agreement reached with Ford when Nixon left office; others, including the New York Times, simply called the move unwise and unjust. Ford, who announced the pardon on live television on Sept. 8, 1974, called the Nixon family's situation "an American tragedy in which we all have played a part." He added: "It could go on and on and on, or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that, and if I can, I must." Ford, however, may have also written his own end, politically speaking. Many believe the Nixon pardon was the reason he lost the 1976 election to Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter.

JIMMY HOFFA, 1971
The head of the Teamsters had been serving a 15-year prison sentence for jury tampering and fraud when President Richard Nixon pardoned him on Dec. 23, 1971. Nixon had one condition, however: Hoffa should "not engage in direct or indirect management of any labor organization" until at least March 1980. Hoffa agreed and supported Nixon's re-election bid in 1972. It is believed that Hoffa was trying to reassert his power over the Teamsters, defying Nixon's requirement, when he disappeared in 1975.

When you look at the 'pardons' based on the party who held the Presidency at the time....which ones do you think are really the bigger crooks???
