Well, "semi" means half and "wild" means, er, wild. So a semi-wild horse is a half wild horse. This means that it has not been broken-in as much as a rideable horse, but is not quite as wild as a real wild horse.

well it basically is what is says!!!
Some horses are very docile and submissive to the humans request - whilst some will always remain boystorous and a bit wild!
Some trainers believe that a semi-wild horse is best as they maintain a bit of an attitude and are not under the riders thumb so to speak and are not as quiet and obedient as other horses who would be.
Semi wild horses can be dangerous depending on what level they take this wildness to - bucking/rearing/bolting is not acceptable - but some semi wild horses mayb just enjoy taking the mick now and again - for example refusing to be caught!
Hope this gives you a better understanding of it! xx

It means that it was a wild horse and is now either getting a custom to being with people but is not broke or is green broke

For those horses if you are thinking about getting him see if you can find someone near by that gentle brakes a horse

If a horse is gentle broken they still have their spirit in tack after they are broken they tend to have a good personality

it means that the horse has had little training and it does not work well with people. it could also mean that it is a wonderful horse in hand but impossible to ride or the other way around. if this is in an add for a horse it means DO NOT buy this horse (that's why you don't see it very often)

Semi-wild would mean that the horse hasn't been handled much and is still scared off people coming near it and it also wouldn't be able to be ridden.

Like the above poster said, it would be a "half-wild" horse. It probably refers to a horse that is already used to being around people, but needs some serious handling, desensitizing and socializing (with people) before it can be trustworthy and reliable, let alone rideable.

Sounds like it's a horse that is semi-wild.

My new Forrest mare is semi wild, she cost £50 with foal. The foal is totally tame but the mare is still very timid with humans, she will take food from you and if you get her in the morning shes very quiet but will let you touch her back but not her nexk and face. On a typical day tho she gallops away from you. She is still like this now after having her for 3yrs!

Made up term. It means that it is a horse that hasn't been handled a lot and is probably unsafe for anyone but a very experienced rider to handle.

hmph! A horse even the husband can ride ! Sounds sexist to me . hee, hee. Only kidding folks. Actually some of the ladies in my trail group have made the comment that a horse is one even her husband can ride even though he still searches for the slot to drop the quarter in.
