ADDENDUM

"after a 182 game year"

Huh? Rookies... They played 154 games in those days. Even today, the regular season is only 162 games.

Oh, BTW, that wasn't a great pennant race. It was a great collapse.

Books are still being written on the 1908 National League pennant race, which was absolutely bizarre. It featured Merkle's goof, in which he didn't touch second on a walk-off hit and was called out, thus costing his team a win. The three teams involved were separated by a half-game at season's end, forcing a playoffs.

The 1967 American League race, featuring four teams, figures in any discussion. Heck, it revived baseball in Boston.
