(x - 2)(x-2)
x(x-2) -2(x-2)
x^2 -2x -2x +4
x^2-4x+4

or simply use the formula (a-b)^2 =a^2+b^2 -2ab
so x^2 +2^2-2(x)(2)
x^2 -4x+4

FOIL it

F - First
x * x = x^2

O - Outside
x * -2 = -2x

I - Inside
-2 * x = -2x

L - Last
-2 * -2 = 4

Then combine like terms
x^2 + -2x + -2x + 4 = x^2 -4x + 4

FOIL (F is for first, multiply the first number in each parenthesis together to get x times x is x^2) (O is for outer, multiply the two outter terms together such as x times -2 to get negative 2x) (I is for inner, multiply the inner terms together such as -2 times x to get another negative 2x) (L is for last, you multiply the last terms together to get -2 times -2 to get positive 4) (add up all the components together to get x^2 - 4x + 4!)

you use the F.O.I.L method

this is what we did.. its just a way of factoring

you multiply the first two (F) so thats x^2 (or x squared)
then the outside two (O) so thats -2x
then the inside two (I) so thats -2x
then the last two (L) and thats -4
so then you combine what you get which is
(x^2) + (-2x) + (-2x) + (-4) = x^2 -4x-4

and thats your answer! i think you can also use the quadratic equation.

or you can factor by grouping...

(a-b)(a-b)= a^2-2ab+b^2 [Commit this to memory]
(x-2)(x-2) = x^2-4x +4
