Apart from freaking me out!.................
well they make a good pet for some people (weird people!) Also,Toxins of various types are being analysed that may one day prove a cure for type's of human disease.
or..........
The same purpose as snails, monkeys, tigers, lizards or any other wild animals, insects or reptiles. They form part of the ecosystem which needs all levels of life to survive. You remove snakes form the ecosystem and they allow other animals to survive who then in turn need more of the next animal x below to survive and it filters on until the ecosystem collapses.
Everything has a place for a reason, even if it may not be apparently obvious.
Thats the most logical answer i can give you!

From a scientific standpoint, animals don't have to serve a point, they just have to survive and breed. Snakes have found niches in almost every environment on earth.
Now, some people have suggested that the presence of snake caused mankind to be as visually oriented as we are. In an environment full of tiny poisonous animals, it was advantageous to have great reflexesand good eyes that could spot tiny movements. That may be why we're so good at reading, driving, and typing today.

Snakes ; they have been portrayed as symbols of evil and of wisdom. In adam and eve the snake represented the devil that tepted them both. In other civilizations the snake was portrayed as a symbol of wisdom such as in the aztec culture I believe.
For one thing snakes have been around longer than us and like every other creature in the ecosystem it is part of the circle of life. Every creature has its own purpose in nature whether it shares a mutuality with other creatures or the environment itself.
Well in a scientific view snakes and every other animal have one purpose ; to procreate. This is one purpose that every creature in this planet share.
In human terms snakes get rid of unneeded rodents that might carry bubonic plague , they get rid of other nuisances, spiders. Some snakes of course make exotic pets to some people. Personally I don't see snakes as evil or anything. Rather I see them and respect them for being fearsome predators. Just like lions.
The only thing snakes do is adapt to their environment to survive.Well I believe without snakes farmers would have a hard time with rodents and our crops might deter in value. Of course snakes CAN prove a bit troublesome specially the poisonous ones. The ones that aren't really aren't dangerous and they could actually get rid of pests.
Hope this answered your question

Snakes are predators, which means they eat other animals. That helps to control the population of the kinds of animals that they eat.
For example, some snakes eat rats. You wouldn't want to be overrun by rats, would you?
