people,
what do you think would happen if a million people marched on washington. then, a few weeks later, 2 million; then 2 and a half.
our mis-leaders are people too. i don't think that there is a politician or wealthy fat cat that can face down a million plus citizens DEMANDING change.

We elected the democrats to end the war in Iraq, and they caved in with the first challenge. The people are demanding an end to Illegal Immigration, and the Congress gives us an amnesty bill, which will bring many more millions here They deserve condemnation.

The sad truth is in our history books or Wikipedia (gets tainted so not a valid solid link but a launching point to further research- OK? )
Just two examples: Abortion Women's Rights & Gun Control.
Both Marches with thousands/millions doing as you suggested.
Now each bill has been re formed, altered. No matter what you do it somedays seems a waste of time. BUT the best part is to be a part of these movements towward change. You really can never throw in the towel. Despite the frustration.
We blame Congress because they have no solutions. They have photo-ops and campaign rallies. Personal agenda and conflict of interest. Including the Senators all running for President. Congress is a bunch of frogs on logs just sittin spittin out their tongues for an occasional fly. I worked on two Congressional campaigns in Hawaii and for our Governor. My story of a grass roots campaign made the AP Washington Post as Campaign Manager. I know of which I speak.
I totally agree, we the people are keeping us down. More like letting us down. Scream holler get involved!!! Wake Up America!! Thank you very much.

Yeah, well, if more than, what, 41% of the population voted for the presidential election, perhaps there would be more reason to complain. It's a whole lot lower in state elections... sad stuff.
You better believe every single lobbyest and fortune 500 stock holder is voting for every election. But do you see the sewer treatment plant workers in there, or the machanics... not as likely.
Which is why election day should be a national holiday, and all non essential workers should be paid (so they aren't missing any money they are counting on), and they can go vote! There should be travelling vans to bring voters to the booths (for those without adequet transportation). Maybe then we would see what the nation really wants.
And people should not be afraid of voting outside the democratic and republican party. It's not a wasted vote, because it give those candidate more momentum for their campaign.

Funny thing is, that we all agree that Bush became president initially through questionable means.
I am not a Democrat or Republican or even Liberal.
I am a moderate conservative.
I find it interesting that our vote process changed in 2000 from paper to electronic. All the while claiming more safe and less problems. Yet, we all know, electronic votes are more easily manipulated than paper votes.
Not being a conspiracy guru here, but, with electronic voting, how can you be assured of your vote being counted truthfully?
I vote regularly and will as long as America stands.. but I do question the ethics of the electronic vote counters and the accuracy of them and wonder what big corp. is padding their pockets.

Here's the deal (as I see it). Teddy Kennedy, was he ever charged with anything in relation to the death of Mary Jo? His father was extemely wealthy, as are all of the Kennedy's. He keeps getting reelected. With that kind of money, he is extremely well insulated. What does he know of my existence? So, what's his paygrade after forty some odd years in Congress? Does he REALLY need that kind of money? Do you REALLY believe that in electing him that he is representing you or your best/vested interests?
Had I gone to a party, got trashed and either drove my car and date, or let her drive my car into the water (where she then drown), and I then went back to the party -- only to report it the next day... Do you think the police would have turned a blind eye? I don't feel well represented at all.

The only solution long-term is to get the federal government out of the things the Constitution doesn't give them authority to do.
With all the lobbyists buying politicians, that's not easy.
The only thing to do in the short run is to make it so that lobbyists can't "buy" politicians, only "rent" them.
In other words...
Don't re-elect NOBODY.

Congress is out of touch with the average American, but ultimately we get the government we vote for. How sad is it that Presidents are selected on average by less than a third of the populace. My thought on voting has always been that it is your ticket to the show. If you don't vote, then don't complain because by not voting your are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

IF the sheeple people of this country would voice their opinions to their elected leaders in enough numbers then something could be done.but they have to demand what they want.are sometimes just suggest it to them. i have suggested two laws to a state legislator acquittance i know and he wrote them up into bills and they passed thru and became laws.

If you believe this to be true you're living in a bit of a fool's paradise. Government is about rich people becoming more rich and cutting their friends in on the action.
