Hi. The memory on a graphics card just allows to card to make images faster. The image on your monitor is not effected. But you may be able to increase the resolution.

The memory requirements are based on the resolution (horizontal and vertical) of the image you want to display and the number of colours.

I would have thought that 4MB would be plenty for 1024x768x256 colours or 800x600x64k colours.

Adding more memory will depend on how many empty slots you have left and if you can get the chips themselves.

Just be careful when you are installing them and take electrostatic precautions to make sure they are not damaged.

If you are using a 1024x768 screen resolution, you only need 4MB really. Extra memory is only needed for higher resolutions or 3D games.

I wouldn't have thought it was worth adding more memory to your existing card - it sounds pretty old, why not buy a new one?
