can feel (just for one day) what we feel, what we go through to realise that this is not a choice? And that our relationships are are not much different from straight people?
I believe that saying "walk a mile in my shoes before you judge me."

I'm not gay, but yes, I do wish that straight people could be gay, white people could be black, men could be women, skinny people could be fat and on and on for just one day. We would have a much more compassionate society if people could understand others.

NO, A mile walked in their shoes is much worse than a mile walked in mine--as a gay self accepting man. And lets not be to hard on the homophobes...they are the ones who alert the world to how unequally we are treated. Without the Anita Bryants, George Bush's, Ted Haggard...we would have less proof for our cause..even the homophobes on here have their own very valuable uses (but they are not wise to them).

I see where you are coming from, but I'm not convinced it would help in a lot of cases. I am a heterosexual but I am able to empathize with you. It isn't because I have been in your situation. It's because I am comfortable with myself and I care about people. Many of the homophobes I have encountered are not happy people. They use their own misery to stoke the fires of hatred, and use that hatred as a weapon to try and make others feel worse. For those folks understanding your situation would only make them more eager to hurt. For those whom ignorance is the reason for their bigotry, your solution might well help.

It would be nice if people would remember what Jesus told us about judging others...to take care of the log in your own eye before judging the speck in someone Else's eye. Don't judge others lest you be judged. Would I choose to be a lesbian, no, but I accept that I am, I am at peace with my spirituality, and have a loving partner and a wonderful family and am open and proud to be a lesbian because that is how I was made. Who am I to tell God that he did something wrong? Kind of arrogant :)

Poor pity you for being picked on. Like gays are the only ones. Forget about fat people, smokers, Jews, Christians, etc....

Being gay is a choice as you can choose whom you have sex with and when to walk away. Saying that you are born gay is just a way to relieve yourself of taking personal responsibility for your actions.

What's a homophobe? Someone with an irrational fear of gay people? Sorry that doesn't exist. The only reason why people are called "Homophobes" is to win arguments by intimidation. You could also use the labels racist and bigot to accomplish the same results.

I agree this goes for homophobes as well as racism, sexism, prejudice people, etc.

For example a homosexual couple has the same rights to love each other as a straight couple.

A woman has the same rights getting a raise and earning the same amount as a man doing the same job.

That's a bit like saying I need to murder someone before I can judge someone on death row, cut off my whatzit before I can discuss women's issues or law (or abortion). Or need to be a drug user to judge that. Furthermore "walk a mile in my shoes before you judge me." refers to people who make bad decisions based what life deals them. Descision as in choices. Which apparently you don't have. Sorry it just doesn't follow

They have no life, they're miserable creatures, and need someone to blame all their perceived injustices on.... instead of going to the mirror to see who the true cause of their own misery is.

I am a homophobe and believe me I have no choice either. I was born this way.
