We watched "The Secret of MY Success" yesterday with Michael J. Fox from 1987. As kids we watched this movie often.
It is interesting to me to see the women in that movie that were considered to be some of the most beautiful women at that time. In today's society, they would just be considered average attractive women. And I'm not just talking about hair and clothing styles. I'm talking body and facial features, movements, attitude.
These women had average bodies, even the promiscuous wife of the boss. Slim, average breasts, nice bodies. Certainly not what we would see today, big breasted, big butted, looooong thin legged women with striking features.
In real life now, men who have been around for the last 20 years, have your own preferences changed? Do you prefer one look over the other? Do you know what I'm talking about or am I rambling?

That movie was made before breast enhancement, and personal trainers were as common as they are now. Almost all Hollywood stars have personal trainers now, whereas in the 1980s, the only time they had personal trainers was if a guy was going to play a boxer, Superman or Batman, or something.
Now probably 80 % of the stars, both guys and girls, have personal trainers. About the only ones who don't are the character actors that specialize in being fat people, or grandpa and grandmas.
Also, I find that you get used to the time period that you're living in, and the people in these older movies look frumpy and old. When I was a kid, movies from the 50s and 60s looked that way to me. Now, movies that I can remember being new in the late 70s, the 80s, on through the mid-90s look that way to me too. Sometimes though, after watching for about 30 or 45 minutes, you can get lost in the time period, and the people look good again. It's like you get used to them on their own terms.

Each decade has its own standard of beauty . . . Marilyn Monroe's body would not be preferred over J'Lo's in the late 90's as J'Lo's would not have been preferred over Marilyn's in the late 50's. Of course this is media hype. We all still have our natural physical preferences that go deeper than what society tells us is the "in" look or style. But media hype has a significant influence on many people's preferences. If the media says athletic is in, then we'll be looking at the Gabrielle Reece types. If the media says buxom is in, then we'll be looking at the Kelly Clarkson types. In the 50's and 60's people would have thought Jennifer Lopez's butt was too big. Now everybody wants a J-Lo butt. The bodies are the same. The standards are what change.

I couldn't agree more. Leading ladies of 20 years ago are certainly more "average" than today. they actually did seem like people you might bump into on the street. today its not so much if you can act rather than "Can you look good and say this line at the same time?" To answer your question I would much prefer the ladies of yesteryear. Im only 20 but I miss the days I never lived in where women didn't havet o look to movie stars how to look. To answer your question, i prefer the old fashioned girl who doesn't have to impress.

I understand what you're talking about completely. Back in the 80s, beautiful women were considered to have a timeless, classic look. Today, it's sexiness and how much cleavage is shown.
I honestly think that the definition of beautiful has evolved over time, but only to adapt to the standards of sexiness. Today, sexiness is about breasts, showing skin, and wearing barely-there-type outfits. Back in the 80s, sexiness was classified as being confident and having a natural appeal.

Well I have been around for more than 20 years, and yes what is considered beautiful in one decade is looked at as average later. Although I always liked the more curvy full bodied woman. The thin small 80's woman didn't do much for me.

I don't think that is a real good movie to judge beauty standards by. It was a B movie at best, and one of Michael J. Fox's weaker efforts. But beauty is always subjective by era. Look at the 1950's, where women were bleach blonde and wore torpedo bras. The 1970's ushered in a more natural beauty. Every decade has its definition of beauty. As for me, I would take a 1970's era Jacqueline Bissett (remember the Deep) over any of today's women.

Well yeah... the 80's were in a world of their own. I think the women of the 60's and 70's were curvy like today(in movies)... except for no surgery.
Women are going to be hot, no matter what.

They didn't have surgery back then as common, and tastes have changed as a result. Women were judged more by hairdos and outfits than surgical enhancements. I think it is starting to swing back as tastes are changing. The big thing today is bone-skinny women like Paris Hilton, and I have never found that to be attractive.

*sigh* Each guy likes his girl differently...it's the honest truth. Some like promiscuous, some like thin, some like skeletal...it's up to each man's personal desires. Beauty is not universal, and thank god it isn't. Confidence, passionate attitudes, and the way women hold themselves appeals more than how they look at first glance. Take care of your body and love yourself...and guys will love you back.

certin preportions (fasical, body, voice) are more attractive then otheres
This also applies to photos and art. but also some people say that this person is hot!! but there not really that hot!! there just ...well, well known amung certin groups.
beauty lies where you look.
so what do you want when you look at a person? thats what youll see if the person does not have what you want they are less attractive.
what is your mind bent on? is it a worthy thing?
