how long before the release date of the CD do bands usually announce the release date?

I agree with the first answerer, there isn't really an amount of time before they announce.

I would have to say at least two months though...or when they release the first single off their album, they would announce the release date as well to move along with the single. Like for example, Kanye West has his new song, "Stronger", out and the album containing that single will be out on stores in September.

But then there are some artists that aren't really known that well, and when a single from them suddenly shoots up the charts, their album is usually always on sale in stores. It depends on the status of an artist to know when they announce their release dates. But you can always check on their website, MySpace, etc.

i dont beleive there is a certain amount of time.
i would assume at least 2 weeks so they can get enough people to know they are selling a new CD
