i know that when you shine a light on something black it stays black but why exactly does it do that?

i cant say excectly but i think the black surface absorbs the colors of light of every frequency and it absorbs , so it stays black..

i hope u know that light has made with seven colors: violet,indigo,blue,green,yello,orange &red..

every color has its own range of frequency..

when we shine light on any thing ;the surface of the thing absorbs some range of frequency and the other frequency which r not obserbed are reflected.so we can see that reflected frequency of color,

for xample,,
we take a thing,it has yello color...
if we shine light on it ,,it will absorb the all colors but not yello,,it is bcoz of its some characteristic it seems yello,,

thus this thing bounce the range of frequency of yello colour ...

i m not sure ..so plz check it ,if its true or false..
