Of course in theory free health care is great! Who in there right mind would hate it? But do you think it will work in this country? Are the deciding factors things like the amount of people in this country, or do people not want it because there are illegal immigrants and they don't them to be covered as well? Would we really be drowning in taxes? All answers are welcome.

Yeah we would drown in taxes. Canadians and Britons are already. Of course it would mostly be the rich. Who cares about the rich, I'm not rich are you!

Let's up the Minimum Alternative Tax from 15% to 25% and have FREE health care and put FHP out of business along with Blue Cross!

Right now at my company you have to pya like $250 a month for an FHP type thing

While it costs only about $20 a month to have a Blue Cross thing that pays 70% after you do a $2,000 Doctor and $2,000 prescrption deductable.

So a $10,000 appedectomy will cost you about $4,000 under that plan! or $8 under FHP, of course FHP will cost you $3,000 a year whether you use it or not.

It won't be free. Do not believe a word of it. To top it off, you could be thrown in jail for not buying insurance. What if you don't want insurance? Where will your rights be. Why should I be forced to spend money on something if I don't want it? I, personally, do have insurance and it is a thing my family considers a priority and we budget accordingly. But no one should make us buy it. Something is so very wrong here. I hate the fact that we are creating a society of people who sponge off others and milk the system. What happened to pride in being self supporting? No, let's just all stay home and watch TV, play video games, collect welfare, unemployment, food stamps, get free insurance/drugs. How can people look in the mirror at themselves and feel good anymore? I am all for helping people who are down and out for AWHILE but making it so easy for them to sit on their collected butts is a bad thing. A society of laziness.....

If administered properly, I think it could work. We have more resources, technology and money in the US healthcare system than anywhere in the world...YET, so many of our hard working citizens do not have health care. Other countries laugh their @**es off at us because of this. We're one of the richest countries in the world. As long as we go to great lengths to make sure the citizens of the US reap the benefits, that would be fab.

I think that it would work fine if we do it correctly, most develop countries in the world have free health care I don't see why we couldn't (since we like to think we are better than them) now I did not get the link between free health care and illegal immigrants, you lost me there.

No. If you think you can't see your doctor now, just wait - oh, say six to eight months. It will never work in the US. Your taxes will go up another 20-25% to cover the costs.

Well, I think instead of that, we could lower the cost of malpractice insurance, which is getting to be so expensive, we won't have any qualified doctors soon or then it won't matter if we have free healthcare, because you will be getting treated by someone like dr. nick on the simpsons.

It works everywhere else. And it sure as hell would be better for people who have NO HEALTH CARE AT ALL.

No, because there is already too much freeloading in this country. We will become even more bankrupt than we already are.

NO!! Nor do I want it to. I pay for MY health care, YOU pay for YOUR health care.
