maybe he is developing stronger feelings for you and is scared by this...
consider how close you were, whether he had any ties etc, or whether he had a girlfriend or whatever...
alternatively, he could feel threatened if you have suddenly confessed feelings about someone else, or if you have become ever closer to another friend...
its tricky i agree, perhaps talk to him? ask him if you have done anything to upset him or whether he feels it is time to move on? either way i thinkits probobly worth expressing how much his company means to you, then you can leave it saying you've tried your best and preserve the good memories

You don't provide a lot of background detail here. What did he say when he ended your friendship? Did he give you any reasons? Did you argue? Has he said he never wants to talk to you again?
I don't believe it's because he has fallen for you. If he wanted to move on to have more than a friendship with you, he'd find a way of telling you or showing you - he'd want to spend more time with you, not less.
It could be that he has met someone, but friends who ditch friends for a significant other aren't really friends in the first place.
Sometimes friendships do end, and you never know the reason, or the real reason.

Very simple , two things...first u make a move on him or start growing a feeling for him. second is the other way , he makes move on u or start growing feeling for u , realize the smartest things will be to step away to at least save memories for the good old days.
