Nope...not possible. Processors will only fit with their respective sockets. 775+478=irritation, frustration, and a broken processor, motherboard, or both. Also, with a socket 775, modding an older processor is next to impossible. The pins for this setup are in the motherboard and they touch metal contact points on the processor. On most other processors, the pins go into the motherboard. Like others have said, just go ahead and purchase a new processor for your motherboard. If you aren't a heavy gamer, I reccomend the Pentium D 805 Smithfield, $60 on www.newegg.com and is very easy to overclock if the motherboard supports it.

no ross, although they both use similar processors the socket lga 775 and 478 are totally different sockets, and incompatible
the p.c i am currently using is a socket 478 using a pentium 4 hyper threaded 3.2ghz and i was offered a pentium D processor but couldnt take it as the pentium D is a lga775 chip
however there are loads of processors avalible for lga775 socket, and even the newer core 2 duo processors use the 775 socket although some of the least modern boards require a bios update to make them dual core compatible
the pentiumD processors are farely inexpensive and are actually very good processors,i have a acer desktop with vista premiumand it has a pentium D processor, and its very fast, even with the onboard radeon xpress 1250 graphics the p.c is pretty fast
the only processors that fit into socket 478 are probally the pentium 4 ,however these are still good processors, although slow compared to todays dual core processors
good luck mate!

a 478 processor WILL NOT fit on a 775 mobo. You will need a 775 processor to go with the new mobo.
Sorry - just the way it is!

No, the later Pentium 4's may use a 775 socket which is why your board can support them, but as far as I know, the 478 P4 will not fit in a 775 socket

Simply NO! The boards are built toaccept only one type of processor pinout and if this is a 775 board then you must have a 775 processor

no you'll have to by a socket 775 processor. if you want a cheap single core processor that is ok when speed comes into play then be looking at www.tigerdirect.com . be looking to pay $50-$100 for a single core intel processor.
