A boy told me that when I was in the 5th grade, & I cried because I had a crush on him. But later on in life, I found out he was a woman-beater in high school.

See he tried to hurt women (girls) when he was young. His viciousness escalated into actual physical violence. I am sorry he hurt you in fifth grade, but I bet he saw that you would not be victimized even at that young age, so he lost interest.
Good riddance to him.

I would just ignore it. Hate destroy the hater so if they wanted to waste their energy hating me that would be their problem. I can see how it can hurt a child's feelings though, that was mean of him.
