"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. That was actually a book assigned to me in 8th grade English, way back when.
"Watership Down" is another "classic" of the 8th grade it seems.
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series would keep you in books for about a year.
"Dracula" is a terribly wonderful book as well (the 2nd chapter is slow, but the book is well worth it).
"Eats, Shoots & Leaves" by Lynne Truss might be worth your while as well. It is a grammar book but it might just help your writing match your proclaimed reading level.

1. Definitely Mark Twain. Maybe Roughing It or The Adventures of Huck Finn.
2. Any Gary Paulsen. The Brian/Hatchet series is good.
3. If you like animals, I would definitely recommend any of the books by James Herriot.
4. If you don't mind doing a little research with what you read, you could try Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Cannot remember the exact name and older book, but get books on Easter Island.
Any of the Helen Keller books, either about her life or the ones she wrote, are fantastic. You will enjoy her attitude toward socialism. Just imagine losing your sight and hearing at age three, people thinking you are mentally retarded, and having a life that includes being a diplomate.

While I could go on and on listing my favorite books, the best thing would be to ask for the reading list from the school.

Yes they technically ARE kids books, but they're advanced kids stuff. and besides me reading them my sister and my cousin who are both in highschool read and liked them. what about the Lord of the Rings books?

To Kill a Mockingbird and Les Miserables. These are not long or especially advanced but they are wonderful classics and need to be read.
