I've been told a certain Samsung is the one to go for in my quest for a widescreen monitor.

The contrast ratio is speced at 1000:1(DC 3000:1). Most other models just say 1000:1.

So Id like to know about the DC figure. What is it and do I need it?

DC stands for dynamic contrast ratio. As for do you need it, you don't absolutely need it, but if you had something that was just 1000:1, versus 1000:1 with a DC of 3000:1, the second would perform better in certain situations. As for what it is and how it works, read up on it here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrast_ratio#Dynamic_contrast_ratio
