I think Jake Peavy is the better pitcher. He has been very reliable for several years. He's a big named pitcher. I'm a Cubs fan and Jake Peavy always makes me worry when he's up against the cubs.

Peavy is a better pitcher, but only because he's got more experience pitching in the bigs.
This year Peavy's the best pitcher in the NL... though not the league. I've got to give the nod for the league's best pitcher to either Jeremy Bonderman or Josh Beckett right now, though that could easily change in the 2nd half. Beckett was a notoriously great pitcher in the 1st half last year, too, until he fell apart.

Jake Peavy is the answer to both those questions. Jake Peavy is the best pitcher in the National League. He's just that good.

Between Peavy and Young I would have to say Peavy for one reason... He has a quicker release home. He could maintain runners on better. Because of Young's height he is a lot slower coming home when he's pitching. So runners can steele off of him better.
In the entire National League though. That's a tuff one. It's between Peavy and Penny. Both are solid pitchers. It's to tuff to call now. Maybe Peavy though. Reason: He's younger. When Penny was his age he wasn't as good as a pitcher. He was good, but not as good as Peavy is now.

Peavy over Young when he is healthy, which has been pretty much all year. Best in the NL this year would be Peavy, again, over Penny ever so slightly.

Peavy answers the first question. young is still young (no pun intended) and there is no way to know if he will match up with peavy's stellar career.
and this year the stats tell it all. in the same number of games started (17) peavy has one more win, and one less loss than young. he has more Ks and IP than young. young edges him in ERA by .09 and thats it
and to answer the second question, Brad Penny is the best in the NL West. hes got more Wins and better ERA than both of those guys, and a WHIP of 1.1 thats an insane ratio. you cannot argue with Penny being the best
