ESPN knows as much about predicting as thw weather channels long range forcast. I think the yankees will have that wild card spot or at least challenge it in september.

The Yankees aren't done yet. The Yankees have already shown they can get hot and pick up 10 games in a hurry. They do need to get better outings from their starters, and the entire lineup needs to hit instead of just three guys (A-Rod, Jeter, Posada). The All Star break should help them recoop, and with the schedule they have after the break.... they should be able to make a run on the leaders. They're the yankees, never count them out.

Either you're from NY, or haven't considered the following:
1. If the Yankees were to win the division OR wild card, they would have to pass 6 of these 8 teams in front of them: Red Sox, Indians, Angels, Tigers, Mariners, Twins, A's, Blue Jays. Can't imagine ALL those teams tanking, esp. with so many series between them.
2. With their current record, and 93 wins usually required to secure a playoff spot, Steinbrenner's employees would need to go 54-27 the rest of the year... aka win EVERY series... and have a better winning percentage the 2nd half of the year than any team had the 1st half.
3. You can't clone Roger Clemens, who at best is a .500 pitcher anyways.
4. A-Rod is at least slightly banged up.
5. The power at first base is absent.
6. Sheffield is in Detroit.

I still think Yankees can make the playoffs, but it's really up to all the players. Most of these players are HOF players. Yankees just haven't been able to stay consistent this season. It might be because when A-rod is hot, he's really hot and when he's cold, he doesn't get a hit in six straight games. I think that Jeter is the MVP of the team, not A-rod, because Jeter has been the most consistent.

Look it's as simple as this. If they werren't as many games back as they are they would make the playoffs. Boston would have a somewhat skid in the second half and they would probably make a come back. Unfortunately for the yankees they played too bad in the first half for that to happen. So yes the yankees are definitely done.

i think of he's sweet with regard to the Rivera project the place he pronounced "through fact i dont think of Rivera has the stuff to make a screw up anymore, Papelbon could make a mistake and get away with it," that's certainly authentic, through fact Rivera is the superb closer in Baseball and in an Yankees uniform, he won't be in a position to make as many blunders as Papelbon. There are intense expectancies for the destiny hall of Famer. with regard to the Yankees not making the playoffs and his different predictions, I purely would desire to assert that it rather is in basic terms too early into the season to make any kinds of predictions. The Yankees have began the seasons horribly for a minimum of four years now and in all those years they have made the playoffs. Now to think of approximately it, each Yankee hater has anticipated the Yankees of doing undesirable, yet thier predictions are continuously incorrect. This purely shows that no count who makes predictions related to baseball the result will continuously be 50-50.

oz is right. the yanks are consistently a second half team. and boston has yet to prove that they are a second half team. in the last decade we've seen boston totally collapse in august twice (maybe three times)
so it can happen, which is why you really cannot count the yankees out until they are mathematically out of contention. will they catch boston and take the division??? idk. probably not
but they certainly have the ability to go on a tear and beat out detroit and/or cleveland for the WC
this is the first time since 1997 that cleveland has been playing so well, so no-one knows if they can make it through the dog days of august. dont be surprised if they enter august 5 UP and by september are 8 back.
so no you cannot count the yanks out until the end because they always can make a run. the peopel who say they are 100% out are just haters who are stroking themselves at the fact that the yanks are this far back

The NY Yankees are traditionally a second half team. The Boston Red Sox aren't. They have gone into nose dives many times in the past. It all makes for some late season drama...again.....

Look at the first five series the Yankees have after the All-Star game. That's the envy of all American League teams. One thing's certain, with a schedule like that, they're all but bound to start the second half on a good note.

It's not just ESPN, it's a whole lot of sports analysts that are predicating that the Yanks are finished. And I do believe that they will not even come close to us in the standings.I predict it will be the Red Sox, Blue Jays, then Yankees come October.
