My childhood best friend is STILL my best friend today....after 21 years. How many people can claim that? =o)
I met her when I was 3 years old & moved into a house on the street behind her. She could see our house from her back door. We always did the craziest things together & definitely kept our parents on the edge....no wonder they started getting gray hair early in life!! lol!! One of my favorite memories is how we practically lived at the subdivision pool every summer. It was only a couple streets up from us & near the entrance so we'd just walk up there. We'd go up around noon when it opened, pay the small fee to get in then swim & play til about 4:30 or 5:00. We went home about then cause that's when our Dads would get home from work & it was dinnertime. If ever given a chance to go back in time & re-live a certain period, that's the time I'd choose....from when I was 3 til about 12 years old. Those years were the best of my life hands down...not high school like most people claim. =o) She's in the Navy now & stationed in San Diego so I don't get to see her much anymore. The only time is when she's able to come home a week at a time on leave. We still keep in touch on the phone & myspace though. =o)

There was a boy who was a class clown or in trouble of some kind everyday. One week, he decided to "break out" of elementary school. He somehow got dogs to help him in digging a hole under the fence near the road, in the football field. It was taking too many days to do it himself! No one believed he could do it, until one day someone came running up to the teacher and told him that he was running down the road to somebody's house! (We were supervised, he just did it literally behind the teacher's back. Just like the rest of us did when we didn't want to run all the way around the field!) Well, the principal had to go get him, and sure enough, he was running down the road! He got to ride back to school in the Principal's cool yellow '56 Chevy (with the fins!), and everybody thought it was so cool he had done it! Shortly after that the school had cactus planted there, and they are still there now.
I guess he was preparing for his life later, as he is still a trouble maker! The Principal is still driving that cool yellow car too!

Well my best childhood friend now lives in VA and we had many good times together. We are still very close and see each other from time to time whether she comes here to NY or I go down to VA. We both are successful women and of course in our lifetime have trodded on the stray path (who hasn't) it is a part of growing up. Our best times together, playing with our Barbie Dolls and being teenagers and sneaking into bars before we were of age.

I met a girl when I was eight and taking swimming lessons. Back in the day they used to just throw you in if you didn't want to go in.
Well I sunk to the bottom and had to be pulled out and the lifeguards did CPR on me. From then on that little girl always watched out for me(she could swim). From that day to today, 28 years later, we are still best friends and don't go a day without talking to eachother.

Mine didn't turn out so good. One of my good childhood friends grew up and got involved with gangs and drugs. He is in and out of jail and I only hope he turns his life around for the better.
