Heart Shaped Box -
Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's frontman and the song's author, claimed that this song was inspired by a television report of children suffering from cancer. However, many believe it was really written about his shaky but passionate relationship with his wife, Courtney Love. The lyrics do tend towards this latter interpretation, since they seem to concern themselves with an unstable romance between two individuals. It's worth noting that the lyrics mention Pisces and Cancer, Cobain's and Love's respective astrological signs. Love, after their second meeting sent a small heart-shaped box, containing, among other things, a doll's head, to his hotel room. This is believed to have inspired the song's title. Cobain and Love both shared a love and fascination of dolls.

Rape Me -
Kurt Cobain wanted to make a strong statement in support of women and against violence toward them. In his words, the song is a sort of poetic justice. A guy rapes a girl. He ends up in jail and is raped there. It's also believed that the song was in direct relation to his feeling of being raped by the media, in particular Vanity Fair and MTV.

Polly-

Which you can find on Incesticide.

Kurt Cobain (from what i know) took this idea for the song from an article he read in the paper, about a girl who was kidnapped raped and then escaped by making friends with her kidnapper. This is supossidly where kurt got the idea for polly. Listen to the song it will make alot more sense. but its fine to interpret the song however you like.

Peace

Also "The man who sold the world" is not by Nirvana they did a cover of it. Its David Bowie's.

Yay! Good to see another Nirvana fan. RIP Kurt Cobain.
Well, have you ever heard the song, "The Man Who Sold The World"? It's one my favourites by them.

Follow this link http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2902 to find out what it's all about. This is actually for a different version of the song by a different artist, but it's the same lyrics.

Hope I helped! Mail me if you need more.

there is no way to define a meaning of a song... songs are undefinite for you to find the meaning you recieve from it... think of a Nirvana song you like, write the words down. And think of the subliminal message that you get from it.
