Growing up I was a normal kid, I wanted to be a police officer, lawyer, FBI/CIA agent, doctor, etc etc. lol but unlike any normal kid I grew up (19 yrs. now) still wanting to be all these different things, and never knowing what I was meant for. Then I thought about acting, which I know I'd be good at if I get over fear of speaking in crowds, which I probably can. But acting is a way to be all those things I wanted to and more, but I heard somebody say, "making it" as an actor is about as likely as lightning striking you twice in one week; which I hope is exaggerated. Anyways, anybody with experience mainly, but anybody at all.. do you think it'd be worth it? I'm sure I may have what it takes, but who doesn't think that right? - But there's maybe one problem, I've never acted before, not even in a school play. But I'm sure there's a lot of people like that.

Acting is defiantly worth it. I've been acting for four years. I've been in eight plays, one infomercial, and one short film (all substantial roles). And I absolutely LOVE it!!!! We have a lot in common, I've wanted to be many things growing up, but acting gives me a way to be all of them. I used to be shy and I had problems speaking in crowds, but once I got up on stage that first time every fear just melted away. What you heard is correct, making it in the business is highly unlikely, but there are other ways to act. I do community theater and whenever I hear of an audition for a more professional acting job I jump on it, but I am perfectly content to just be onstage. Get involved in your community's theater, start small. You'll know very soon if acting is what you want to do with your life. Break a leg!!!
God Bless!!!

First off, acting is very hard work! It is far beyond just learning lines and creating a character. To be successful you need to bring a solid work ethic to the table. No body, not even indie/guerrilla filmmakers want to work with an un-professional like person.

When I'm casting for a role in a project I'm looking for more then how the person reads their lines. I'm looking to see if the person is ready and willing to put 18 hour days for the next 7 days. I'm looking to see if this person will be on time, positive and proactive.

If you want to make it as an actor (and yes it is EXTREMELY difficult - I was told by a college adviser that it will be easier for me to become a Lawyer or a Brain Surgeon!!!) you have to prepare yourself and know what you are getting into. Are you ready to be number 78 in a line of 200 people at a casting call? Are you ready to be rewarded, shot down, scrutinized, praised, loved, and hated all at the same time? Are you ready to dedicate all your free time to learning the art of acting, to go to rehearsals and auditions? (You can't have a full time job with a set schedule if you are an actor. That's why so many are waiters and bar tenders. - they can switch their schedules for auditions and roles easier )

Acting is far from being EASY and it is very demanding, but very REWARDING! I

Do a lot of research, start learning the craft (you won't get anywhere without some kind of training and experience.) Work in plays, indie films, STUDENT FILMS ( are a great way to get use to the filming lifestyle and build up your resume) Remember Agents and all the acting unions are TOUGH TO GET!! There are a lot or requirements you have to meet before acquiring either of them! Stay positive and don't quite! That one time out of 1,000 is what is going to get you there!

Is it worth it? 100% yes if all you do is breath, live, and sleep to create and act! Acting is a passion and from all the actors I've met it has been what they've wanted to do all their lives because they have this burning desire to create. That desire is what makes them live the grueling lifestyle of an actor. It's very very hard but if it is what is INSIDE GO FOR IT!!!! All the hard work will be WORTH IT. GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST.

The only people who should make the attempt to act professionaly are those who cannot see themselves doing anything else. It sounds like you just kinda sorta want this. It's by far the hardest thing in the world to make money at. Take a class and you'll see it's not as easy as it looks either. Garry Marshall said unless you're very beautiful, incredibly talented or very funny don't even try. Go ahead and take a few classes and see if you've got any talent. Don't be one of those people who has one class under their belt and tries to get an agent. The reality is you're better off persuing almost anything else. If there's something else you could do that would make you happy do that instead. You owe it to yourself to try. I'd bet you drop the idea as soon as you see the reality of it.

acting is great fun, get a college class or something. Alot of communities have small theaters, get involved. Now the real hard part is if you are serious and go on auditions, because you will be spending money on gas, bus fare, food, clothing ext... and you will be turned down more often than not. that is the hard part, so basically you need money, or have a good job, to finance an acting career. That is the only hard part, the money.

You should only take on becoming a professional actor if you can't imagine ever doing anything else.

It is a brutal business, you have to have a SUPER thick skin. You will be turned down far more than you are accepted. You will see other people get great roles for no apparent reason.

If you can easily see yourself doing something else, you probably should take on one of the hardest professions to be successful in. Other that professional sports, I can't think of a more difficult business to break into.

Find and join an acting class. You did not say in which USA city you live so you can get information on acting classes, workshops, etc.

If your truly in love with acting, then it's totally worth it. If you simpley fine it fun...do community theatre but you don't need it as a career....acting is alot of hard work, and you have to be truly passonite about it if you want to work for it.

Acting is worth it only for those who are miserable when they are NOT acting. It isn't the hard work, it's the incessant blows to one's sense of self.
