Always read everything in sequence at least the first time through. On a reread I will sometimes skip a paragraph or two that I know isn't important (usually because I am too eager to get to an exciting part), but even this is rare.
Skipping is just silly. Take Dracula, for example. The second chapter is terribly boring, but it builds up necessary information and events for the rest of the book. If it had been taken out (or skipped), the book as a whole would suffer. Reading really isn't an activity for the impatient.

When I pick up a book I look at the picture on the front cover, then I go to the back cover to check what the story is going to be about.
I then look inside for the authors foreword and if they have a profile picture.
Then I read the reviews ,if any, and start reading the book from chapter one right through until the final one!!
Like Mari mari, if it is Historical ,I will always check the facts first ,so that I know who is who , go back as I am reading to family trees etc. I also find out if the author has written other books.I will then read the same author for a few weeks ,then change to someone new!!

Yes, I always start from the beginning, it is the only way to start. I never look at the end to find out how it ends.
I read all the beginning staff.. like the prologue, the page of dedication, etc. If it is an historical novel I want to have all the information I need to fully grasp the story and its times. Sometimes I will check any reference book before I start, to familiarize myself with the subject or the history of the book.
I have an old set of encyclopedia and they still come in handy for this kind of stuff.. Now I have learned to do my research on line. After I have read the book, I continue my research on the subject. Sometimes when it is an historical novel, I will research the real Historical People who were part of the book. If it was a real interesting book, I research to see if there is another book out there that is similar. Also if the writer was real good, I will research what other books were written by him, and where can I get a hold of his other books. I usually will read several books of one writer before I go on to another writer. But yes, I start from the Front Cover to the last page written.

it fairly is a robust concept to initiate from the commencing up, and take the time. in case you're interpreting a translation, i pick to advise which you're making constructive that it became completed via a Muslim. additionally it would help lots in case you have a minimum of two translations. each so often one isn't adequate. A translator is human and could make blunders. If uncertain approximately any verse, look it up in extra advantageous than one translation. additionally there are actually books of "tafseer" (clarification of the Quran) in English. it will help you to have one or look it up on the internet. some texts won't be sparkling without a proof, as an occasion, the historic context. interpreting the Quran is a alluring adventure. Take some time, and take a verify out to do it countless situations. it is going to help in case you communicate the factors which you think of are doubtful with someone, no longer in ordinary terms a e book. I've only ever dones that once or twice but if I start skipping parts of the book I don't feel like I get the whole picture.
This usually means that I'm not enjoying the book.
The last time I did this was with a book called Bachelor's Kisses.

Yes. I always start at the beginning, and carry on reading. I don't think there is much point reading the end first like my mum does, because you won't understand any of it, as you don't know the characters.
However, if a character dies, or something major happens, I never can resist the urge to read the end page, just to check it has a happy ending. It always does.

Depends on the book. If I've read something before I sometimes "skip the boring bits" e.g. all the Achilles chapters in Song of Troy - probably about 50% of the book.

Well that's what you are supposed to do!
Or isn't it?
Sometimes when the writer asks you to get bred do it in the boring text there is a message
Patience is the key and perseverence is the name of the game
I recall reading Ayn Rand's Atlas shrugged have read it six times because that is my Favourite book.
And there is a speech by John Galt which is Very lengthy ellaborative but it speaks of the books' entire philosophy how can you afford to miss that.
It is boring indeed but worth it.
Hope that answers well!
Cheers!

"Dutifully"? No, never knew one had to read a book in a particular manner. I love books. I usually go over one pretty good before I begin to read. If I find something boring sure, why not? Enjoy the book!
