Do you mean in statistics or geology?

In statistics, an outlier is a piece of data that is numerically different from the rest of the data. Outliers in data sets can cause results to be misleading because it can skew the data off the accurate.

In geology, an outlier (or a klippe) is an erosional remnant of a thrust fault sheet or of a rock layer that has been mostly eroded away.
