I'm so confused about it. Is it the same as saving the cord after you give birth? My OBGYN asked me if I wanted to save the cord after my daughter was born? I wasn't sure if this was the same as the stem cell thing

well the cord has stem cells and can be used later in life if the child has a need for stem cells.

The cord has stem cells in it, that's why they want to save it. Stem Cells are the cells that you start out as, they can turn into any other kind of cell. Scientists want to use stem cells to cure diseases and grow organs in their labs by manipulating the stem cells. This is very useful, if say, you need a new liver. The scientists will be able to make you a brand new liver instead of having to take one from a corpse.
