I for one feel like it's robbing people of the freedom of choice, which is not the way we should be doing things, it it now? Someone here mentioned 'smoking' and 'non-smoking' sections in public places, as restaurants, coffee shops, etc., - great idea! :-)
Here in Asia, the smoking ban has been taken to new heights, especially Singapore, where one is not allowed to even smoke sitting outside MacDonalds or Burger King......

I think it is another example of infringement of our freedoms. As long as smoking is legal, how can you be stopped from smoking in the open air??
If people are worried about the pollution that smoking causes to themselves, perhaps they should look at cars, buses, lorries, trains, planes, these are much bigger pollutants and much more of a health risk than smoking.

well as a smoker i`m a little annoyed that it is taking away my freedom of choice. I think they should have done what Spain has done and given cafe`s, bars etc the choice of being smoking or non smoking a fair decision for both sides. I was living in Spain as they brought it in but came back to UK not long after.
I feel that the UK law is rather dictatorial.....

I was against it at first but its so nice not to come home with my hair and clothes stinking of fags!!

plus i gave up recently and the ban should help me stay a non smoker. (although i now feel left out when all the smokers go outside for one)

I think in 20 years people will look back and laugh at how offended people were at not being allowed to put cancer sticks in there mouths in public.

Every time I've sat down in a restaurant (until 1st July in UK) I have had to smell smoke...smoke and food just don't mix well (I don't mind in non-eatery pubs). Smokers just don't get this. The smell really carries. So we get stressed too because it feels like a violation, like noise pollution. If I were to come over and urinate in your beer you'd be annoyed I imagine? Thats what its like breathing in 2nd-hand smoke when you are trying to eat in a restaurant. Or if you were in a cinema and i came in with my stereo and played music that would be a violation, eh? Anyway, its over! Way hay! (Rant finished)

Well lets be honest It is all leading up to a world wide ban on smoking . It is to be totally abolished as soon as sufficient money is raised to compensate the tobacco growers. It will become an illegal crop.

I think it's a good thing. I think that if a smoker wants to smoke, they should have to inconvenience only themself to do so.

As for your example, that is fair. Do you have any idea how I feel when I'm violated by second-hand smoke? It's a disgusting, pointless habit that should be banned full stop, for everyone's good.

Well I don't want cancer from second hand smoke...I say ban it!!! Its gross, bad for smokers and bad for those of us who have never touched one in our lives!!!! I have stopped going to certain places because it smells so thick of smoke, it isn't worth being there.

As a non-smoker who loathes the smell of tobacco I think it is going to far.

It's great. We can now go out to eat and drink without coming home smelling like an old ashtray!
