I don't believe America is "always" trying to police the world. Historically the United States Government has been about allowing other nations to govern themselves as they wish, unless that nation/country/kingdom somehow posed a threat to America or it's allies.

Our current situation, with the Bush Administration in charge of foreign policy, has found us "trying to police the world" for two reasons; 1- Money, 2- Power. The Executive Branch of the U.S Government is filled with people from, and connected to, the oil industry. (Bush, Cheney, Rice, et al.)
Q. Where is the oil?
A. Iraq.
Q. Why hasn't the U.S. Military pulled out of Iraq after toppling Saddam?
A. The Iraqi government has refused to partition the oil (their nation's wealth) to the Big Oil companies the way the Bush Adminstration had planned.

See how soon this administration pulls our troops out of Iraq after the Iraqi government has passed the laws necessary to take over most of their oil production.

My guess is that the Iraqi's are trying to "run the clock out" on the current Administration, hoping to save their nation's wealth. Unfortunately, that means we will be "policing the world" (at least the Iraqi world) until we have a new Administration, or a Congress that will hold them accountable for their unecessary and unlawful use of our great military force.

Good question. This is something that while I'm a conservative and so are many others, many don't agree with George Bush's policy of "policing the world". That is what neocons want, not paleocons.

He is trying to Westernize the world, which is silly and wasteful, because it will never happen. The fact that he believes that he can hold a Democratic election and drop a constitution in the lap of the MidEast and think it is all going to work out is nieve. I'm tired of trying to help the world when they bite the hand that feeds them. I say fine. Let them alone. See how long they last without the US.

Why does everyone say these countries asked for our help?

Who in Iraq asked us to bomb the sh*t out of them in the name of "help"? Do you actually believe that or are you just saying whatever needs to be said to justify the Iraq war.

If you believe it is our position to police the world then why are we not in Darfur? Why haven't we bombed those people into freedom? If it's not because they don't have oil then why would we allow a genocide to happen? Come on Christians, would "God" want us to sit here and allow other humans to die like this?

Any country has not just a right but an obligation to attend to it's own best interests. We must not put our head in the sand and ignore the world around us. As the world's only remaing superpower we must do everything we can to defend and promote freedom and liberty everywhere.

Because America wants to rule the world. Americans are the new imperialists.

Because the rest of the world likes to sit back on their duffs until the situation blows up in their face. Then what do they do without hesitation? "America! America! Help us! Why oh why didn't you do something sooner!? You're so selfish! All you care about is what happens to you!"

The UN sits back and levels resolution after resolution against evil dictators the world over. The only difference between us the most of the rest of the UN, is we actually believe we should ENFORCE them.

America renders more aid to more countries than anyone else. America helps when asked. When we dont help someone will always say Why isnt America helping? Its a no win situation.

Our government believes that whatever issue is occurring in another country, that it's our duty to make it our business. It seems as though America tries to get involved but in reality our involvement is often not welcomed.

Because we are trying to get the rest of the world to think like us and be like us. Then have our little "colonies" trade with us their goods and set up military bases in those countries to attack other "insurgants" and police that country.

They won't stop til they have the world

Because the other countries of the world keep asking us to do it.
