Sick of the old question about the chicken and the egg? Me too!! We already know that the egg came first. I ate it for breakfast......later on I ate the chicken for dinner. The real question here is about the cats. We don't eat them (big ones may eat us)....so how could a cat come before a kitten or vice versa? In case you're wondering (like me) this question is just as Philosophical as the tired old chicken/egg one. And yes, I do lie awake at night pondering it. Of course I sleep with a cat.

Well Do, If you go into the Seven Eleven and ask for a KatKit, they will be quick to tell you that there's no such thing. They will set you straight and inform you under no uncertain terms that the Kit comes before the Kat. Next?

Neither the chicken and the egg nor the cat and the kitten question are philosophical. They are misunderstandings of biology. Zoologists today know that there is no such thing as a strict, black and white border between two species. This question predates the theory of evolution, and at one time may have been vexing. Long ago this sort of question was rendered meaningless by science, just as the tree falling in the forest making a sound.

Philosophy is a noble and beautiful discipline which contains and creates both fascinating, powerful, questions and life-altering answers. These "What came first...?" questions are nonsense but they mask legitimate questions.

What is it to come first? (Questions on the nature of time and causation)

What makes an adult the same person as the child they once were? (Questions of personal identity, memory, and the nature of existence)

Are there unanswerable questions? (Questions of epistemology and information theory)

Aside from replacing the egg/chicken with kitten/cat, this is the exact same question. The answer is, and probably always will be up for debate.
