The intels quad and dual core cpus out perform AMD's.

I think AMD needs to utilize the most popular socket (am2) and build a energy efficent quad core that will crunch numbers just as the quads will is not better!

AMD Get your act together.

AMD made another dumb move, making a 2 processor quad system and its only special to that MOBO.

What do you guys think.

...They made that 2 processor setup a while ago, it's not their latest move or anything.
They ARE trying to make a comeback. This August they're debuting their new Barcelona processors, which are native quad-cores. Intel's current quad-core cpus are no more than two dual-core dies slapped together. Then in late Q4 or early Q1, they'll release their gaming Phenom processors, the successor to the amd 64 line.
AMD is so behind because Intel brought out an unexpectedly good processor after being out of the spotlight for so long.
There's also the fact that Intel is much larger than AMD, has more money, and have more FABS.

What is the i5 model? AMD 6 core is a very good CPU don't listen to Intel fan boys claiming its an low end CPU, Its a very capable may not be fast as Intel but still will run programs you want... this choice depends on your budget.. If you got money go with Intel, got a budget get the AMD phenom x6 I was in this situation about 2 years ago I wanted a new PC to build and I was looking at an Intel Q8300 but it was slower and more expensive then the AMD phenom x4 955 I spotted which i went for and it hasn't let me down played all the games I thrown at it and currently running battlefield 3 at 50fps on high so I am happy

AMD might be out after Barcelona. From reports I've seen, Barcelonas aren't doing well at all, while I'm sure AMD will release them, however, if they don't perform well, AMD might very well discontinue manufacturing processors. AMD owns ATI now, so they might decide to focus on graphics cards alone. Or they might live under and develop something insane, the same way Intel did.

I completely agree. But give AMD a chance. They have always found a way to stay as competetive as Intel. If they hadn't they would have been long gone like the old Cyrus chip if you can remember that far back. Sometimes in takes a little longer to catch up to Intel, but eventually AMD finds a way.

They are after a very small market with that one. Who is going to pay to put two processors on a motherboard?

Sure, some rich type gamers, and the heavy duty multimedia graphics design...but I'm not going to pay more than $2K just for the main board and processor set.

I agree. They need to continue what they had been doing...keep their stuff marketable for the average user. They should let Intel have the freak designs.

I think it's pretty stupid to play favorites between microprocessor companies.

How bout this, exercise your market discresion, buy the better chip at any given time and stop being a fanboy for a company.
