its not an alternative logo, but an addition to the normal one, often placed on beside it

It looks like an old logo of a BMWCCA local chapter.

The BMW logo was originally designed after the image of an airplanes propeller cutting through blue sky. Hence the blue and white.

What you drew looks exactly like a Volvo emblem.

If you have seen it on other cars perhaps it's a country crest. Many people honor thier heritage by placing a decorative shield (of different shapes and sizes) on thier vehical.

I have never seen a BMW with any emblem other than the normal....

Even the OOOOLD BMW's have that logo... This is a BMW 600 produced from 1957-1959, still has the same....
