The hallmark of many Mets (and Red Sox,etc.) fans seems to be an obsession with the Yankees' fortunes.
In the (countless) years when the Yankees were in first place and looked like they had a good shot at the Series, I don't remember ever caring in the least whether the Mets won their division or finished in fifth place.
If the Mets, say win their division and then lose a heartbreaking series to the Dodgers in the playoffs, are Mets fans going to be consoled if the Yankees don't make the playoffs?
The sad thing is that the answer is probably yes.

Wait - you say you say 27 in 07 because you support your team. Well, if your team is 10 games under .500 in September, will you still say it when it is impossible to happen?
There is a difference between support and realism. Be realistic - there is not one thing the Yankees have done this year to make any real baseball fans say they are capable of coming back. And there is not one thing this year to make you think that the Twins, Tigers, or Indians would go through a big losing streak to let the Yankees back in the race (which would not happen because the Yankees cannot go on a big winning streak, eveb with their schedule being loaded with TB and KC games this month.

J-Far, the fact of the matter is, you're going to hear from a far sizeable number of biased and unknowledgeable Yankee fans than you will fans that are intelligent and loyal. I have no problem (and I mean NO problem) admitting we've had our fair share of problems, not only in the playoffs, but as far as management's concerned, especially this year. The bullpen is a mess, the team's aging, and all Mel Stoytemeyer (

Hmmm J Far, nice name by the way. As a Yankee fan, it would be nice to see the Yankees turn things around in the second half. Impossible? no, Improbable? yes. As I've stated before the Yankees need to trade everyone on their team except for Posada, Jeter and ARod. Also if these people only knew the crap I put up with from Mets fans....... sigh

I hate the Yanks. I guess they are trying to make the suckyness go away. I totally agree with you. The Yankees may not win 27 until the year 2027. I just don't see it happening, because there pitching is so bad, and the AL is so good. I do think the Mets will win the world series though. Here is how I see the playoffs shaping up.
AL 1Boston vs. 4 Detriot
AL 2LAA vs. 3 Cleveland
AL Detriot vs. Clevland
AL Cleveland
NL 1. Mets vs. 4. Dodgers
NL 2. San Diego vs. 3. The Brew Crew
NL Mets vs. The Brew Crew
NL Mets
World series Mets win.
The only reason Cleveland is there is because I am an Indians fan.

It can happen, and all it would take is the Yankees and the Red Sox to both do what they usually do in the summer and fall. And I don't need a Met fan -- has Beltran taken the bat off his shoulder yet? -- who can't do the math, 26 > 2, to tell me who's done and who isn't. By the way, how those dogs doin'? You know, the ones you wanted to know who let out in October 2000? They came back to bite you last October.

Yankee Fans will brag if their team wins one game against the Red Sox and the Sox win the other eighteen. They will be saying 27 in '08 once they officially get eliminated from playoff contention. Somebody bragged to me about the Red Sox only winning by two runs yesterday. Yankee fans are always fooling themselves.

well that is the typical yankee fan saying. but the truth is they havent done anything in a while. they are just a bunch of overpaid underachievers. what do they have to play hard for? they have the highest payroll in baseball. they should go back to the way they won in 96 with the type of people who want to win not just get paid.

The Yankees have the talent to win, but frankly, a good bunch of them seem to be too emotional and too sensitive to perform to their potential.
It happened in 1978, but this is 2007, and the BoSox are simply too good a team.
