Not knowing your experience with computers, ill explain how to check things in detail.
these questions need to be answered... we can give you suggestions before these are answered, but cant really pin point it for you.
Are you losing the connection between the router and modem, the modem and internet, or the wireless computer and router?
do you have a wired computer hooked up to the network, or are you only using a wireless?
if you have a wired computer, does it also lose the internet connection?
what have you done to try to solve this problem?
Without answering the previous questions, here is where you can start...assuming you have a dsl connection.
the very first thing i would do is replace the phone wire.
i was having this same issue, and i called att 4 or 5 times, and just as i was about to change isps i replaced the phone cord and havent lost a connection on the modem yet.
if youre just losing a connection between the modem and router, it could be because they are no longer in 'sync'.
go to your routers set up page, and restart it.
if you dont know how to do this, open your internet browser, and type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar. this will take you to your routers set up page. (im pretty sure this is the normal address, but it may be 192.168.1.1 )
next, go to your modems set up page. open the browser and type in 192.168.1.0 (or 192.168.0.1).. restart it.
if youve already done this and are still losing the connection. update your router and modems firmware.
go to the companies website that makes your modem and router.. search around for the firmware, save it to your desktop, open the modem and routers set up page and update the firmware.
if youve done that, and it still doesnt work, next, find a new phone outlet to plug the modem into.
so do those things, and let us know if you still have problems.

I presume your ISP is Tiscali and they see no problem.
You did not mention your router maker. Often household grade routers are rushed to the marketplace with defective firmware. Check your router firmware version and check their web site to see if they have a newer version. If so, follow the directions to upgrade firmware. Never use a wireless connection to upgrade firmware. Your description suggests a firmware matter. If the web site does not provide a newer firmware, contact router maker as they may have a newer firmware but it is not yet on the general web site.
You did not mention wired vs wireless LAN. If wireless, do you walk around and drop connection? Wireless signal can be blocked by masonry walls, metal in walls (ducting), silver back mirrors, etc.
Finally are you loosing WAN or LAN connection? If the connection between pc and router fails, it is a LAN connection failure; if the connection is between router and modem, it is a problem with the WAN connection. You need to know which fails to fix it. You can determine this, next time it fails by opening command prompt (start - run, type in cmd and hit enter). At the prompt type in "ipconfig" without quotes. You should receive an IP address, subnet mask, default gateway (I will assume default gateway is 192.168.1.1). At the prompt, now type in "ping 192.168.1.1" without quotes and use the actual default gateway of your connection. You should see 4 positive ping responses; if you do, the LAN connection is good, if not there is a LAN connection problem. Write back with this info and we can help further then.

I've also had the same problem and it got me pissed. what i did was reconnect everything. i started by shutting down the computer, turn off the modem, and unplug the cord.(same for your router, unplug it) then wait at least 30 seconds. plug in all your cords for both modem and router. then turn on the modem. then turn back on the computer and the internet should work. if this problem keeps happening call Tiscali to come over and fix it.

Called Yahoo and told them about it. They could care less. Tried to rip me off $75.00 for a cheap DSL modem. Then got a survey from them saying I am a VALUED customer. Hello Charter WIFI!!!
