No, they would get global help if they were in any other country.

I sympathize with the people in England who have been suffering misery from the recent floods. We know what it is to live in a place where life is cut-off due to flood water. This happened in our Dhaka city in 1988 when the downtown was also under about one-foot of flood water.

Our people living in villages are suffering this natural calamity on almost yearly basis when there are lots of rains and flooding occurs in upstream rivers in India and the floodgates are opened there to get relief and that ultimately wash Bangladesh's low lying areas on routine basis, without any remedy in sight.

Please do not compare the misery and the aids those our people receive from so many friendly countries of the world, including your great country, in similar situations as it would be tantamount to insulting or mocking the plights of these poor people who barely managed to have their GDP at US$500+ as per the latest figure available.

We do hope that you recover from this menace soon.

In any other country except England (Even in the U.K.) a state of emergency would have been declared and help would have been provided.

Large numbers of flood plains have been built upon, leaving the floodwater nowhere to go except into the towns.

Since most drains were installed, the population has expanded tremendously, but the drains have not been enlarged, to allow for this.

You should all advise the council, that you can't be expected to pay council tax, while properties are uninhabitable.

I think you have got the wrong idea about our government. They send very little money abroad in aid.
When there is an "incident" abroad, it is the people of this country who respond, independent of government

Strange that John Prescott hasn't taken up the cudgels on behalf of the people he allegedly represents. Perhaps he is too busy in his new non-job in Europe checking his allowances and all the other 'perks' he gets in this 'unpaid' job.

With all due respect to the good people of Hull, a couple of thousand people have lost some possessions and will need a couple of thousands of pounds of work done each to put things right, mostly paid for by insurance companies..

When we send help to Bangladesh, it's usually in the aftermath of events leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands completely homeless, without clean water or sanitation and in danger of starvation.

A sense of perspective is a useful thing.

Just asking the same sort of question its payback time from many countries in the world to help the flood hit people of the UK.

I agree.

I think it's about time all the countries of the world got together and did a huge collection for us after all the floods we've had recently. They can keep the corny Xmas songs though...

Brit Aid 07 anyone?
