You are basically finding common factors of the numerator and denomiator to cancel.
1) 8x / 24: both top and bottom have 8 as a common factor, so divide both by 8: x/3
2) The common factor is 5a, so dividing top and bottom yields: 3a/5
3) The common factor is 10^2, so this equals 10^-1 , aka 1 / 10
4) The common factor is (x^2)(y) so you get
-x / (x^2 * y)
