Race is a poorly defined concept. For much of the last two hundred years it basically meant skin colour and only mattered in societies where people of different colours were treated differently.

In some modern societies, including the USA, people are sometimes asked for their race in order to show that all "races" are being treated alike or given the opportunity to participate in whatever it is.

Whenever I have to fill out such questionnaires, I always mark the box that says "other." I believe if everyone would do this, we could put an end to this practice. After all, there is only one race - the human race.

The question probably refers more to your ethnicity than your race. Anthropologically speaking, there are only 3 races: caucasoid, mongoloid, and *******. These are determined predominantly by bone structure and facial features. However, there are more ethnicities than and be listed. Go with what you've used your entire life, or choose "other" if you feel that the options presented don't fit you.

Hmmm this is a complicated question. Its hard for me to tell too since I'm part Spanish and Japense but I look like neither and my parents tell my my Spanish line has a mix of other European countires too. So I guess the best answer is to look for the diminant blood in you like as your mom whats her dominant blood line and your dad and do the math.

what is your genealogy? where are your parents from? for example...my parents are Mexican. therefore I'm considered white. mexicans are white because they have European blood in them. Then again, they can consider themselves Indian because they are mixed with Aztec. So it all depends.

If you mixed (part Asian, black, white, and a little of this or that) then put other! Sometimes I do...if you're in the mood to do some long reading...check out the link below. It's interesting!

Don't figure out a race that you need to participate like running per se. When it asked you, it would be race as Caucasian, white, black, hispanic, asian, african, etc, etc.

I agree with X and Marguerite L. On forms with race identity, I check "Other" and write in "Human".
