The T3 modem does not give you the speed. The T3 connection does.

A full T3 speed is 45 Mbps or the speed of 30 T1s. It is symettric with the same speed up and down.

A T3 line requires an access modem designed for a T3 line and it is not the kind of modem the home owner would install as it is a lot more complex. Costs for the modem alone run around $10,000 or more.

A T3 also requires a Telephone Co Local Loop from your ILEC and the Local Loop is about $2,000 / month not including porting.

This is a more robust, capable feed for business applications.

Steve B above is incorrect in his definition of a T3; a bonded T1 is 3 Mbps.
