It is an excellent movie, extremely intense and truly heartbreaking. It's a true story and it's a horrible tragedy what happened to Brandon Teena. I do wish the movie had focused more on how the crime could have been prevented. I don't want to ruin the movie for you, but being that's its a true story, I'm assuming you know the gist of it. that being said, the sheriff and local law enforcement really failed Brandon. After he reported that he was raped by lotter and nissen, it took police 3 days to bring them in for an interview and after the interview they were released despite clear evidence of rape & assault. Four days later Brandon was killed as well as two others. After committing 3 murders lotter & nissen were then arrested for rape, not murder. They were later charged w/ first degree murder. In my opinion, the local law enforcement(i use that term loosely) was as much to blame for the deaths of Brandon Teena, Lisa Lambert and Philip Devine as john lotter & tom nissen.

I'm not a supporter of the death penalty but damnit worthless scum like lotter and nissen really make me question my position.
