why can't we remember all the good things that happen to us? Why can't we remember most stuff that we learn at school, or wherever? Wouldn't it be nice if we would have flashbulb memories for all the things we want to remember and forget all the other stuff that we don't want? The answer is no!!
Try to imagine that you learnt from a bad experience that walking alone in a dark alley is dangerous, next time you would have to experience the same thing again, that is get mugged again, and later on forget and consequently the same thing happens over and over again, when you could have simply solved it by remembering the stuff from memory.
Our memory system is perfect because it is not perfect. Don'ttry to repress your bitter experiences but don't always re-live them as well. Learn from them and grow up to be a better person..

It is possible to have the pain completely healed, while the memory remains.

In that way, it is integrated into your life experience so that it adds to your wisdom, for the greatest lessons are learned from painful experiences.

Memory is not a curse. Sure there are bad things to remember, but without memory I would not be able to "hear" my son's laugh, smell my mom's scent, and lots of other wonderful things that are only there in memories.

I think that they serve as a reminder not to make the same mistake again and the memory that is left behind serves as a reminder of what happened so we do not make that mistake again. I think we have the ability to bury it deeper than we do, but I think that that takes a fair bit of time

Hope this helps

Learn from the past. Not live in the past. We remember the past to share are experience, strength and hope with others.

The memory isn't bad in itself. It's how you choose to react or remember the experience.
