My lawn is very yellowed and brown, not to mention short. I realize water will help, but we haven't really had enough rain to make any difference and I do not have a way to water it myself. Is there any home remedy or store product I might be able to apply to help with the growth, color and plushness?
I have an alterior motive for wanting the grass to grow as well. I earn money by cutting grass for my neighbor as well as my dad and since it hasn't needed to be cut in almost 3 weeks now, I have gone without getting paid and I really need the money. Ay suggestions? Thanks

Not short of astro-turf... All living things require water / moisture. Not to worry, a couple of days of rain and you'll have your hands full trying to keep up - grass bounces back very quickly :)

If you're old enough, see if you can get hired part time with a local landscaping / grounds maintenance company... you sound keen enough to work.

Well it sounds like the grass needs water... You could put fertilizer on the grass such as Scott's or vigoro, you can find these at any large retail chain for around 10 dollars. If you decide on a fertilizer I would get one that says Weed and feed on it. This will kill the weeds while fertilizing the grass. You will need a spreader if as well. However, without water even fertilizer won't work very well. Try a rain dance? Or maybe steal an alhambra truck? Also, next time the grass does grow long and green make sure you don't cut it too short. The longer the grass, the stronger the root will be. Make sure to water early in the morning 1-2 hours before sun comes up, if you can water.

Lawn grasses naturally go dormant when there is not enough rain. Despite the other advice you have received, do not fertilize; fertilizing a dormant lawn can damage it. The lawn is not dead, only sleeping and does not need fertilizer, reseeding or other treatment.

The only solution is rain or watering. If you water, you need to water for much more than 20 minutes at a time. To water a lawn properly, set out a small empty can on the lawn, then turn on the sprinkler. When there is an inch of water in the can (will take two to four hours), turn off the sprinkler. Repeat for the various sections of the lawn. Water once a week.

Instead of making money mowing the lawn, ask your dad or neighbour if they need any weeding done, window washing, deck painting, garage clean out, car washing etc etc etc.

Though watering is the best thing to do, but to look it more healthy and more greener, you need to apply fertilizer (its a white powder, available in home centers or any local stores), spread it over the grass/bermuda grass. It's better to water it at night than in the morning as the sun will only dry out the water easily, while if you water it at night, there are plenty of time for the grass to absorb the water under the ground. Just like on plants/flowers where the best time you apply water is during night time. If you'll ever water in the morning, then you have to do it before the sun rises up.

Water then water some more...i know you currently don't have much of it, but water is it. Go get yourslef a hose and sprinkler and water your lawn in sections for 20/30 min at a time.
You could have put a Summer Fertilizer down it would help ready your lawn for the hot summer days, and get it "drought ready" but you've passed that point. you'll just have to live with dead grass to the fall when you can try to bring it back to life for next year.

Why can't you water it? A sprinkler can be as cheap as 10$. Hook it up and water your lawn at night or in the evening not in the morning. There is nothing you can buy that will do any good if the grass does not have enough water to thrive, sorry.

You've already answered your own question. There is no substitute for watering. Sorry, but without it, no chemicals or additives are going to revive your lawn.

Dang, if it is that bad, you may have to re-sow lawn seed.
Check in your local nursery so you can get the best mix for your area. It will be more resistant to your weather variations.
