A wireless router is a hardware box that puts a radio signal which can be used by a computer having a wireless card to connect to the Internet. It eliminates the need to have a physical cable running from your router to your computer. A wireless router has a range of about 150 feet (50 meters).
If you were to attach a wireless router to your current cable or DSL modem, it would allow you to have Internet access from just about anywhere in your home. It would also allow more that one PC to access the Internet over your cable or DSL connection at the same time.

DSL Routers are a type of router that connect a LAN to the Internet via a DSL connection.[1] They are available in both wired and wireless models. They should not be confused with DSL modems which are normally network bridges that connect a single computer to the Internet and cannot route data packets.
DSL routers are the most common type of router known to the general public. They are primarily found in a residence, home office, or a small commercial office settings. They are used to access the Internet.

Wireless routers take in broad bandwidth signal from an internet modem (cable, satellite or even cellular) and then create a local personal hotspot. With a Wi-Fi equipped laptop or a desktop with a Wi-Fi card installed you can work on the internet without a physical wired connection.
