I'm getting a corn snake soon and I was researching how to take the best care for them. Do they need UV lighting because one of the websites I read said that they only need an under tank heater with no special lighting. Thanks alot :)

God Bless Ya'll

Then why are you asking people if you already found a site with information on it???????

Cornsnakes do not need UV light to remain healthy. They are not nocturnal though...they are diurnal or crespuscular, meaning they are out in daylight hours or the hours at dusk and dawn. Under tank heaters work fine if regulated by a thermostat. Heat lamps tend to dry the air quite a bit, although they can be used. They can be a fire hazard though if they should fall off and end up on the floor. Make sure they are properly secured. As with UTH's, the temperature should be regulated with a thermostat. I use UTH's on all my corns.

They don't need it because they are nocturnal. If you want to put lighting in the viv, I would do one of the moon glow ones.

Stay away from under tank heaters. If you keep the area where your snake is housed at pretty decent temps, the snake should be fine all year long.

With mine I don't use a heater or light. I have had her for several years now. She has been fine.

NO, they spend most of their time hiding from the sun so UV is not necessary. I have a rat snake (corn snakes are simply rat snakes I have no idea why people decided to start calling them corn snakes) and I use a heat pad, they are fine as long as you have enough substrate in there to keep them from burning. I hate that bark crap, it's not suitable and they burn with that, so I use jungle bark and potting soil, it's soft and coushings them from the intense head of the pad.

Any nocturnal snake does not need a UVB light . I have owned many rat snakes one is over 15 years old and he has never had a UVB light on him .

They do not require UVB but it has nothing to do with being nocturnal.

Diurnal snakes do not require UVB either.

Snakes that consume whole body prey get the required vitamin D3 (the vitamin that UVB synthesizes) from the liver of their prey.

I have two cornsnakes, one is an albino.
I've seen nothing but bad come of the heating pads.
Everything from bad digestion to burns. So I avoid them with all of my reptiles.

They don't need UV lighting, just a heat lamp.
I use a heat lamp during the day and a black light at night so the tank doesn't drop too badly in temperature.
