Hiya JVA,
STOP, NO, HALT, NEVER, YIELD, CEASE!!!!
It does not matter if you have a glossy or a matte screen, once it is scratched, it is scratched.
Let it be known that you were warned! ; )
Actually you cannot use 60 grit or any grit sandpaper, nothing good will come of it and you will do more harm. The screen has specifically designed geometrically angled grooves that focus the tiny points of light in a format the humans put together to see a picture. There is no abrasive or chemical scratch repair method currently available. If there was you would have seen it on the Ronco infomercial at 3am. You can easily do a partial repair by filling the scratch with the closest compatible material.
The following instructions were copied from the wikihow website:
"There is a way though of repairing a scratched LCD screen though that is inexpensive and very easy. All you need is Vaseline petroleum jelly to fill the scratch on the LCD screen. This very simple remedy works because the optical density of Vaseline more closely matches the LCD face compared to air.
All you need to do is to clean the surface of the screen and then take some Vaseline and fill the scratch with it. Gently wipe off the excess Vaseline taking care not to wipe too forcefully so that you leave some inside the scratch. "
And that's the scoop! There are a couple of vague products out there but the general tech community agrees that once a scratch always a scratch, for the time being anyway.
The BEST thing you can do is to prevent scratches before they happen with a thin piece of clear strong plastic sometimes sold as screen protectors.
GOOD LUCK!!
