Most of the answers you've gotten for your questions are correct. You should absolutely call the local police for both your home area and the area you know he was last. Contacting the FBI also very good idea. The point is the more people you involve in your search, the more people that will be searching. It wouldn't hurt to contact the girlfriend and her family as well. More action, of course, means more results! And think positive thoughts! It could be that he just needed his space too after a breakup. Then, with positive thoughts in mind, start calling hospitals to rule out the worst (rule out not confirm), and other friends he could have visited or gone to for comfort between there and home. A detective is always an option as well, but honestly I would let that wait and let the police and other law enforcement handle their end first. And of course, as always, pray. I will remember you in my prayers.

It is sad, the unfortunate/fortunate thing is at least 75% of those will be found within those 48 hours. With those stats the people in charge will not change the 48 hour wait. There are idiots calling 911 to ask where their cat is, why their wife is mean..etc...If it were not for the idiots there would not be that wait period for adults. Advocates for missing individuals will advise anyone who is reporting to have as much evidence as possible, if there is "real" evidence of a crime they will be able to act. It is like being caught between a rock and a hard place in the end though.

Depends on how long he has been missing and has he been reported as missing.... there are a few sites that have missing persons and unidentifieds if you feel something has happened to him.. try either Porchlight Missing and Unidentified or Doenetwork both are good sites

That depends on what you mean by "missing". is he missing in the definition that he may have been abducted or in harm, or missing in that he moved away and you just don't know where he is?? That will determine where you go for help. Good luck, I hope you find him.....
