I agree, just stay on 101. 154 is scenic, but will add about half an hour to an hour to your travel time. Plus, there are an inordinate amount of accidents on that route.

Are you coming from points south of Pismo? I usually go that way when I go from SLO to LA. It is a beautiful drive up through the cachuma lake area. And gets you off the crazy 101 traffic through Santa Barbara. It may save you a little bit of time, but not much. Like maybe half hour at most. It is a two lane road that trucks are allowed on, so you may encounter truck traffic that can slow things down.

Just stay on hwy 101 the entire way - it's a lot faster
