Ask them if it's okay for you to wear purple nail polish. The buy some purple nail polish, then mix black nail polish in to it. Keep mixing it until it is almost black, but still contains a hint of purple. That way you aren't really wearing black, so much as dark purple. Or, find some red nail polish with black streaks mixed in.

There's Probably Not Much You Can Do If They're Against It. Maybe You're Better Off Not Wearing It, It Drives Me Nuts That People Are Wearing Black Nail Polish Because Its Considered Stlish At The Moment, I Have Stopped Wearing It For That Reason. I Was Picked On For Being A Goth In High School Because I Wore It And All Of A Sudden The Kids Who Teased Me Are Wearing It. It Makes Me Sick.

You could always appeal to them by explaining yourself a little better. Try telling them that you want to do it because you like the color, your friends are currently wearing it and you can give them examples of your friends who do and are not 'gothic'. which I don't exactly see as a problem but then again my parents when I was growing up didn't care about my choice of nail color. As long as my grades were in line and I was behaving I was in the clear. Maybe you could make that a point too.
But overall I think that painting them black just because your friends are doesn't exactly have to be the case. Be different, pick a different shade if they won't let you. It's not an end all situation. Come on you could rock an electric blue or a dark green. Besides, black is a pain to maintain. Both of my sisters rock the color and can't seem to keep it looking glossy.
So you know, good luck and such. But if worst comes to worse pick a different color and make it your own.

You could always show them pictures of real goths and maybe try to explain the statement you wish to make by wearing black nail polish. If it is just because your friends do, I think maybe your parents are trying to tell you that being an individual is more important than following a crowd. There are so many really cool colors in nail polish right now, so maybe you should try another color...like a dark blue, or a dark green.

Don't go from wearing pink to black. Break the parents in gradually. Like paint cow spots on your nails for fun. Another day make smiley faces or whatever (both require some black. Do solid blue another time. When you come out in black to go with outfit..your parents may be more understanding. If not, do what they say...they are your parents and obedience is good. When you are 18/21 you can choose your own nail color. Happy painting! Good luck!

Black nail polish usually isn't gothic or anything, depends on the person not their nail polish. I don't really care for black nail polish much cause it's kinda depressing to me, lots of other ppl wear it and don't seem depressed. Try telling your parents that you aren't gothic and you're not gonna become gothic if you wear black nail polish and that it's stereotyping to say anyone who wears black nail polish is gothic. If that doesn't work, wear white nail polish and tell all of your friends that white is the new black.

Then don't wear black nail polish. Black may seem sophisticated and chic but really, it just looks cheap and kind of strange. Besides, you can so totally tell if your nail chipped because of the bold color, and chipped nails make you look messy and again, cheap. Try something classic like a french manicure or just doing your nails over in a clear or light color. You can't tell if they chipped, and they compliment outfits nicely. Besides, you don't need to maintain then as often and it'll seem like you freshly buffed and painted them, instead of having messy chipped black nails. Try it, maybe you'll start a new trend of something...

bummer, some parents are more strict than others and i guess you gotta just deal with it for now. Are you leaving out some of the facts, are you dressing in all black and wearing hooded sweatshirts or long trench coats --- is there more to the story than what you have typed? If not, then i go with the wearing it on your toes comments! ;)

Umm wait til you move out and such. You don't have to wear the style just know what it is. If the style was something you didn't like at all i know you wouldn't wear it. (just exampel) so then wear everything else in style but just don't have the black fingernails. My parents won't let me wear black either so i guess you just have to learn how to deal with it like i have 2.

I understand that they don't want you to wear it but even if you were goth, there's nothing wrong with that!!! Personally if you were my kid, I'd be more worried about more serious things than nail polish. They'll come around eventually, just be patient. Good luck!!
