If this is a dirt or clay bottomed pond, your best bet is to add Bentonite to seal the leak. Other various powdered clay materials are available that can also get the job done. Your best source for this material would be your local Farmer's Co-op or a feed and seed store that caters to aquaculture needs.

If the pond has a liner, you will need repair tape. here's a good source online:
http://www.pondliner.com/RepairTape.htm
or you may find it from pond liner suppliers in your area or lawn and Garden Centers or even pet shops that carry pond supplies.

How to do it will depend on where the leak is on the liner. If it's in a location that will allow some water to remain in the bottom of the pond, you can just allow it to leak down, claen and dry the location, apply the patching tape and refill the pond. If it is on the bottom of the pond, you will need something like a small kiddie swimming pool to hold some of the pond water and your fish while you drain and patch the liner and refill the pond. This tape has no drying time and you can finish the repair on an average sized pond in a matter of hours total time.

Hope that helps.

First you mush look at how large your pond is, then look at how large the leak is. If it is a large pond with a small leak, you should have no problems trying to patch it. You would need to corner off the spot that has the leak, hopefully it is near an edge, if it is you could get a large piece of plastic, hold it down at the bottom with large stones, and lift the one side so the water is damned up away from the leak, then patch the hole with fast drying appoxy, making sure that you drain the water away from the leak so the patch will hold and dry. This is the easiest way too do it if the leak is small and you can easily block off the area. This is the least stressful for the fish.

If you do not know where the leak is, you will want too get ALOT of buckets, save as much water as you can from the pond, and fish out the fish. Then Drain it, and patch it if the whole is not too big. If the whole is really big you may need a new liner, or a whole new pond, depending on what type it is.
Also still use the fast drying appoxy as you will need to put the water and fish back in ASAP.

Hope this helps!

If there is a leak in the liner, you could empty the pond half way (which is good for the fish too) and patch it up w/ duct tape. If the leak is on the bottom, either get a new pond or you could go in their and cover it up. You may have to empty the pond.

If the pond is under 600 gallons you're going to need a new pond! There is no way that 4 2 foot fish plus more fish can live in there. Try a 1500 gallon pond.

Erect a temporary tank for your fish using a waterproof liner ( eg extra thick polythene) and planking. Make sure the ground underneath is free of sharp stones or use something like carpet underlay or old carpet underneath the base of the tank. How you repair the pond depends on the materials used in construction. I am guessing it has a liner. If is made from butyl rubber you need special tape or it may even need to be welded. This is a job for specialists. Duck tape or epoxy resin won't work. If it is a clay pond the clay will have to be repuddled by repeatedly raking over the leaking area until the leak is sealed.

I'm not sure I can answer, I'd need more detail..but here are some questions..

Is your pond a man-made? (by leak do you mean a tear in the lining?)
Or is the water empting?
Is it a natural spring fed pond?
Or do you rely on rain etc...

The best thing to do, is contact fish and game in your area, they can help you deteremine where the leak is, what's causing it and the best approach, from every perspective how to mend it..ie someone with an escavator, or culvert...etc.

I have a small goose pond that was empting...come to find out that was due to some flooding we had recieved alot of silt from our neighbors which absorbed alot of the water, we had to have someone dig us a bigger hole, (they can do this even with water in the pond, depending how deep) and add a different kind of dirt...
or you just may need to reroute your water source so the pond is not near the leak area.
good luck!

you need to drain the pond slightly and look for a tear with your fingers, you can feel a small tear, keep draining a small amount at a time and checking. if the water is too low for the fish you will have to put them in a paddling pool or something similar. all good aquatic centres or pets at home do a fantastic repair solution which is rapid dry. please be careful not to fill the paddling pool up to much as the fish will jump out. sorry i can't remember what the product is called but staff at the centres are very helpful........
