Let's all be honest, please. If the worst would happen, and we were attacked here, on our own soil (as in a war), do you have faith that the citizens of the United States would really 'be there' for each other? Would YOU be there for your neighbor? Fighting beside them for this country? Would they be there for you? Could we forget at that time who's black, white, brown or yellow? Who's liberal and who's conservitive? Who's christian and who isn't? Who's white collar or blue collar?.......
I still believe in this great land of ours and it's people. I don't always like the government, but the country is only Run by the government. It's the PEOPLE that make this country what is truly is......

This happened on 9/11. And we stepped up to the plate. I've never seen a more compassionate time in America than after the horrors of that day.

I believe we can and would do so again, despite the name-calling and polarizing politics that have colored our attitudes since.

I even hope and believe that some of the previous respondents above would, in a time of such crisis, stop calling their fellow Americans "bluebies", "cowards" and "traitors", and step up to the plate as well. I know that when the sky is falling and people are in desparate need, I don't see liberal or conservative. I just see people, and I think most of us do too.

Your hypothetical scenario is exceptionally unlikely (at least for the time being). I would think that only China has the manpower necessary to pull of such an invasion, but lacks the navy to do so (although that is growing daily at a frightening pace).
To answer question, it would be best to look at recent history... for example when Japan bombed pearl harbour (regardless if the US govt knew in advance or not), American citizens of Japanese origin were placed (by force in some cases) into the American version of concentration camps. Germans were spied upon by government agencies even prior to our involvement in the war. Yet nobody outside these groups seemed to care... in fact, most agreed. The country was united even though the war was not fought on US soil.
9/11 united every non arab race (at least for a while) against a common enemy, although domestic attacks against moslems were minimal. However, unconstitutional infringements on civil liberties, were put in place against all US citizens and the propaganda machine has made us not trust our neighbours... allowing for more concentrated power in the executive through gestapo like use of our intelligence agencies and civil servants. Yet nobody seems to care and most agree as they "have nothing to hide."
To sum up, I believe that if the US was actually invaded, people of all ethnic origins would team together against the enemy and anyone remotely resembling them (see Canadian Bacon and South Park movie) providing the US Govt propaganda machine gave the okay.

Yes, of course I have that faith. On 9/11 people came together, and no one was asking which political party they were for before working with each other. We may be very divided in this country right now but I know without even having to question it, that if another 9/11 happened we would be there, together, to do what we could, en masse. That's who we are as Americans and I'm damned proud of it.

I know that my community would, I am pretty sure that my state would . . . I hope that the nation could pull together to defeat a common enemy.

I honestly fear, however, that there are some that hold such contempt for this nation that they'd rather see it fail, to be rebuilt in another image . . . I hope to GOD I'm wrong, but that is my fear, the emergence of a 'fifth column' that would undermine our hopes for victory.

lets get real!.... we have been attacked we are currently under attack and we are at war.....there are people who will never get the hint! the only way we can clean house and stay united is:
1. bring sedition laws back in. (sedition = death)
2. require military service / civil service to be a citizen....past service and present service gets you a citizen card. (you don't pay for freedoom you don't get freedom....one common expirience will unite us.)
3. manditory deporting of all foreign and domestic persons who will not serve in the military service / civil service with in 2 years(exception persons over 80 yrs. (if your not with us your against us)

Yes I do believe that if push came to shove the United States is still United. And when that happens things can get ugly, just as the congress discovered last week.

If you look back to the 9/11 incident, that is a clear demonstration that Americans come together when tragedies occurs. I believe that anyone who loves America, will put aside their differences in politics, religion, status, etc. to fight for a greater cause.

Yes, I really do. I saw how people were after 9/11. People in my neighborhood and community, people who I work with... we really were there for each other regardless of race, religion, political philosophy...

WE the people make the country what it is. I totally agree with you. God Bless America.
