prime it with pro-block. paint it with super paint, both from sherwin williams. you will need to re-paint in 20 years or so.

Agree with the first two but would like to make an appeal to laziness. If you use paint, you'll have to repaint it sooner or later; stain won't chip and make a mess. Also you still see the wood grain and I think wood grain looks good. Sure looks better than vinyl.

It would be better to use a solid stain. You can get it for decks and fences. It can be tinted to any color and pretty ,uch looks like paint. The good part is it won't chip and flake off like paint.

After a couple months of drying out, you can use most paints. I prefer latex since it stretches with the temperature changes.
